2020 AGM Update

Due to COVID-19 and the continued restrictions on large gatherings it is unlikely that the 2020 AGM, which was originally scheduled for March, can go ahead as hoped in early June. There is much uncertainty on how the situation will change as Canada and BC lift restrictions. The Board is therefore announcing further postponement of the AGM until October 2020. This will give the Board time to evaluate options on how the AGM could be held, including a virtual meeting as could be possible according to the Society’s Act.

When the AGM will be held we will have several vacancies on the Board. In order for the Swiss Society to function, the following Board positions will have to be filled at the AGM. Please send us an email if you are willing to volunteer for any of the positions below.

– President
– Treasurer
– Secretary
– Event Coordinator
– Liaison (Consulate, Tyrol Lodge, SCMRA, European Festival, Chamber of Commerce, ASO, Swiss Revue, etc.)
– Social Media

We are also looking for volunteers who are willing to help organize future events, once we can resume our activities. Specifically, the following events need organizers who step up to help with making the events happen.

– Senior Luncheon (vacant)
– Jass Tournament (vacant)
– Swiss Fondue Night (vacant)
– Swiss Brunch (vacant)

Thank you,

Board of Directors

2020 Annual General Meeting

Dear Members

The Board of Directors (“BOD”) has received feedback from our members that it has been difficult for some to attend the past weekday AGMs. The BOD has therefore decided to host the AGM on a weekend in the hopes that many members will be able to attend. We have also increased the meeting time from 2 to 3 hours, as we found in the past that some of the business was rushed.

We would like to invite all our members to our 2020 Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) at the following time and location.

Date: Sunday, March 15th, 2020
Time: 1pm – 4pm
Location: Edmonds Community Center in Burnaby, 7433 Edmonds Street

We hope for a great turnout.

Your BOD.

Mt. Baker Cabin Sale

Dear Members,

We are pleased to announce that the sale of the Mount Baker cabin was completed on December 13. The Board will present all documentation of the sale at the AGM. The AGM will also be used to initiate a discussion how the funds should be used to shape the future of the Society.

We would like to thank the builders, caretakers and visitors of the cabin for all the years of dedication that went into the house. This is an emotional moment for many and we are inviting everybody who would like to share a story about their time in the cabin at Glacier with us. If you have photos or a moment you would like to share please email Christina Lips (ch.lips@live.com), our editor for the Swiss Herald. We have also received a message from the new owners, which we have included in the new edition of the Herald.

We are inviting all members to join the Board at our annual AGM on Sunday, March 15, to join the conversation about the vision for the future of the Swiss Society. Details about the AGM will be shared soon.

Your Board.
