About

The Swiss Society of Vancouver was originally founded in 1912 and was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the BC Society Act in 1948. Its purposes are to promote Swiss traditions and culture: exchange and understanding among Swiss people in BC; assist people of Swiss origin who are immigrants to BC in every possible way, to participate in the economic, professional and intellectual sectors of their new country; own, operate and/or manage a social club.

The members, the Board of Directors, and the four subgroups of the Swiss Society of Vancouver try to realize these goals through social activities, sport, cultural events, recreational activities, and the publication of the “Swiss Herald”. We are happy to have an active Seniors Club, a Youth Club and a growing Swiss Choir.

The Swiss Society organizes outings, choir concerts, workshops and special social events for young families and seniors. We are a member society of the EuroFest BC Society which organizes an annual European Festival at the end of May and celebrates Europe Day on May 9th. We are collaborating with other Swiss organizations in our Consular area and we are part of the Conference of Presidents of Swiss Organizations in Western Canada, which the SSV hosted in April 2012. Together with the SCMRA, the Vancouver Dorfmusik, the SCCC and the Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver we are celebration the Swiss National Day at the beautiful chalet of the SCMRA in Coquitlam.

During the year the Society publishes 5 issues of the official magazine “The Swiss Herald”. The content includes news and photos of club functions and members, short articles submitted by the Editor, President and Delegate for the Swiss Abroad, incidental news items from Switzerland, and a section for membership participation.

Every year in March, the Society holds its Annual General Meeting.

If you would like to volunteer, take part, organize an event or just have a great idea, please talk to one of our directors or send us a message.
