Outdoors Club – Visit to George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Saturday ,  November 5, 2016, 11 am – 1 pm

The bird sanctuary is one of British Columbia’s major bird wintering areas, located 13 km west of Ladner on Westham Island (see directions below or visit their website), where more than 90 species of birds, including snow geese, can be seen at this time of year.  Admission: $ 5 for adults, $ 3 for seniors (60+ y ) and children ( 2-14 y ).  A typical tour takes about 2 hours.

Meeting place: outside the ticket office/gift shop at 11 am.  Dress warmly (hat, gloves, boots, etc.); it can be very windy and might be muddy underfoot.  Remember to bring your camera and binoculars.  Please do not bring pets or feed for the birds.

Lunch (optional):  As in the past, we plan to meet at 1.45 pm for lunch at the Sharky’s Restaurant at 4953 Chisholm Str., Ladner.  https://sharkeyladner.wordpress.com/

Driving Directions: The Sanctuary is 13 km west of Ladner in the Municipality of Delta. west of the intersection of Highways 10 and 17. From Ladner, follow Ladner Trunk Road (Highway 10) west to 47A Avenue and on to River Road. Follow River Road westward for 3 km and cross the bridge to Westham Island. Follow the main road to where it ends in front of large black gates. The driveway to the left leads to the Sanctuary’s parking lot.

Tyrol Lodge 2016/2017 Christmas and New Year’s Booking

As you know, members of the SSV can get the reduced room rates and priority booking for the Tyrol Lodge. For the busy Christmas and New Year’s season, however, there is a special booking procedure in place. Please read the instructions make sure you download and use this “Member Booking Form“.

It is the responsibility of the Swiss Society Vancouver (SSV) members to provide a valid email copy of their current SSV membership to benefit from Tyrol Ski & Mountain Club member rates and priority Christmas-period booking at the Tyrol Lodge. Failure to do so will result in the Tyrol Lodge manager applying the guest rate to bookings, and non-member booking rules will apply in the Christmas holiday pre-booking period.

Memorial Celebration of Jeanette Kuenzli
A tree will be planted in memory of Jeanette Kuenzli. A nice outdoors celebration will take place at 10 am, followed by a Pork cutlet BBQ with potato salad. A predetermined dollars figure will be required for the meal.

Please register at your earliest convenience to make it easier for those who are in charge of the logistics.
